Description

C2 Key Word Transformation is Book 3 in the AEE Use of English Coursebooks series. It is designed for C1+/C2 learners preparing for C2 Proficiency and combines systematic language development with focused Reading and Use of English Part 4 practice.

The book contains 12 units covering the principal grammatical and lexical systems tested in Key Word Transformation:

  • meaning, equivalence and sentence architecture;
  • time, tense and aspect;
  • modality, probability, intention and obligation;
  • conditionals and alternative condition markers;
  • passive, causative and reporting structures;
  • inversion, emphasis and focus;
  • gerunds, infinitives and complementation;
  • nominalisation and dependent prepositions;
  • comparison, preference, concession and degree;
  • cause, result, purpose and consequence;
  • relative clauses and complex sentence recasting;
  • negation, quantifiers and fixed lexical expressions.

Students also develop control of collocation, multi-word verbs, hub words with several possible meanings, fixed phrases, dependent prepositions and the accurate preservation of meaning during paraphrase.

The coursebook contains more than 500 individual practice items, including:

  • about 300 complete Key Word Transformation questions;
  • 12 unit diagnostics;
  • 12 six-question unit tests;
  • Foundation, Bridge, Exam Level and Challenge practice;
  • supported transformations using word banks;
  • recurring multi-word verb and hub-word activities;
  • spaced recall of language from earlier units;
  • error-analysis tasks using clearly defined error labels;
  • three cumulative reviews;
  • an initial diagnostic test;
  • a mid-course test;
  • a final review and final test;
  • 100 additional cumulative Key Word Transformations in the Further Practice section.

The answer key provides complete answers, pedagogically useful language components, error labels and accepted alternatives where appropriate.

All examination-style questions are original. The language and task design reflect the demands of C2 Proficiency without reproducing sentences from official past papers.
