Advanced writing course C1-C2

Writing: Effective Communication

An advanced writing-development programme for learners whose English is strong, but whose writing still needs clarity, control and stylistic purpose.

This is not an exam-strategy course. It builds the language control, genre awareness and communicative competence required for high-level academic, professional and exam writing.

Focus

Writing as thinking, not templates.

Level

C1-C2 and C2 exam support.

Outcome

Clearer texts, stronger structure and better reader awareness.

Portfolio

Revision across multiple drafts and one marked final task per unit.

Is this course right for you?

The aim is not merely to produce correct texts, but to develop deliberate, flexible and reader-aware writing.

This course is for you if

  • your writing is accurate but heavy or predictable;
  • you rely too much on formulaic structures;
  • your tone does not always match purpose and reader;
  • you struggle to shape and develop ideas naturally;
  • you want systematic writing development at C1+.

This course is not designed for

  • general language practice;
  • conversation training;
  • strategy-only exam preparation;
  • memorised templates;
  • quick correction of isolated assignments.

What you will develop

Four strands run through every genre unit.

Genre and reader awareness

Purpose, audience, conventions, register and rhetorical choices.

Structure and idea development

Arguments, sequencing, paragraph logic and development of position.

Language and stylistic control

Precision, cohesion, tone, syntax and deliberate lexical choice.

Revision and portfolio building

Rewriting, editing, reflection and development across multiple drafts.
