Writing: Effective Communication

Advanced writing for learners who already know English —
and want their writing to finally sound right.

This is an author-led advanced writing course for learners at C1–C2 level who feel that their writing, while accurate, still lacks clarity, confidence, and stylistic control.

You already know grammar. You already have vocabulary. But your texts still feel formulaic, over-engineered, or not quite convincing.

This course is designed to take writing beyond correctness — towards precision, genre awareness, and deliberate stylistic choice.

Focus

Writing as thinking, not templates

Level

C1–C2 (incl. C2 exam support)

Outcome

Control, clarity, and stylistic confidence

This is not a general English course.
And it is not an exam course.

Writing: Effective Communication is built for a very specific stage of language development: when you are already C1+, but your writing still feels heavy, predictable, or unclear.

You may have strong grammar and vocabulary — yet the text doesn't read like confident C1–C2 writing. This course targets that exact gap.

This course does NOT

  • provide general language practice or conversation training
  • focus on exam strategies or test-taking techniques
  • offer shortcuts, templates, or formulaic "safe" structures

If this sounds familiar

Symptoms
  • writing feels heavy or predictable
  • texts are overly formal or lifeless
  • grammar and vocabulary are correct, but writing lacks clarity
Common causes
  • years of exam-oriented training
  • over-reliance on templates and formulaic structures
  • writing to avoid mistakes rather than to express meaning

This course is for deliberate language development.

It helps you write with clarity, structure, and purpose — without sounding trained or mechanical.

What you actually work on

These are not exercises. These are writing habits.

1
Analyse real texts

You analyse high-level letters, essays, articles, and hybrid genres — focusing on why they work, not just what they contain.

2
Distinguish genres

You learn to distinguish genres by rhetorical purpose, reader engagement, pronoun choice, and structure.

3
Eliminate formulaic writing

You recognise and remove rigid templates, empty linking phrases, and "exam-trained" language.

4
Revise and refine texts

You revise, rewrite, and refine texts — building a portfolio of your own writing, not submitting one-off tasks.

5
Shape ideas through writing

You use writing as a tool for shaping ideas, arguments, and positions — not as mechanical production.

Course Modules

How this course supports C2 Proficiency writing

Writing: Effective Communication develops the level of control, clarity, and precision expected at C2 Proficiency.

The course works across all major CPE writing genres and focuses on what exam candidates often lack even at C1+: clear structure, natural cohesion, purposeful language choices, and confident communicative control.

What you gain from this course:

  • strong genre awareness across CPE writing tasks
  • clear, logical organisation without formulaic patterns
  • precise control of tone, register, and cohesion
  • writing that sounds natural, confident, and genuinely C2-level

This course improves the quality of your writing, not your test-taking strategy.

If your goal is targeted exam preparation, task strategies, and exam technique, we recommend our dedicated Exam English course.

Writing: Effective Communication is designed to strengthen the writing competence that exam success depends on.
